Project of the scouts from France in Kenya

Project of the scouts from Caen, France to go to Kenya to work with  the Ursuline sisters' community at Saint Ursula's school.

In June 2022, I received a short message from Marie, on behalf of her Companion team. They would like to do a solidarity project in the summer of 2023 and wondered if they could be welcomed in Senegal, where I was preparing to do a year's interprovincial service after my tertianship year. On enquiry, Senegal did not seem to be the most suitable destination, given the consequences of the rainy season.

However, I told them that if they wanted to set up a project elsewhere but still linked to the Ursulines, we could try to contact different Provinces. They liked the idea and the contacts began. Three of them were former students of the Institution Saint Pierre and the Lycée Jeanne d'Arc, one of whom was studying for a BTS at Sainte Ursule. Marie and Diane are seniors in the "Club Serviam", in which they are fully involved, even outside school hours and after leaving the college. They would be in family groups! I didn't fully realise the truth of what I was saying!!!

You can see the depth of their experience in their video presentation. Enjoy your viewing.

We are Marie, Diane, Célestin, Paul and Xavier, 5 young Scouts and Guides de France. After more than 10 years of scouting together in the Venoix group (Caen-Normandy), we decided to create our Compagnon team, the latest age group in this movement: Les Complices.

Always ready to help, we've already completed two solidarity projects over the last two years: a building project in the Alps, where we recoated the entrance slab to the Doran chapel, and another as volunteers at the Cité-Saint-Pierre in Lourdes.

This year we decided to go to Kitale in Kenya to work in the Ursuline sisters' community at Saint Ursula's school. The quest for meaning behind this project was very close to our hearts. Above all, our aim was to be able to give something back.
In particular, we were able to paint a fresco with the school's youngsters and repaint all the play equipment in their playground. We were also able to find out how they live scouting.

Take a look at our movie summarising this incredible experience of sharing and meeting new people!
