“You Are Full of Grace”

This Advent I think we all need to hear the words of the angel to Mary in this Sunday’s Gospel, but we need to hear those words spoken to each of us: “You are full of grace. The Lord is with you.”

Today, the Scripture readings call us to joy. The Third Sunday of Advent known as “Gaudete (Rejoice) Sunday” is that break in our Advent preparation where we move into a brighter day, a day of “Welcoming the Light.”

People of Hope Today

As 2020 draws to a close, we continue to dwell in the throes of a worldwide pandemic. Winter darkness envelops many parts of the globe, and our Church has begun a “New Year” with the Hope of Advent.

Live in Harmony

In our first reading for the Second Sunday of Advent, Isaiah proclaims: “A voice cries out in the desert: prepare the way of our God! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God…The rugged land shall be made a plain, the rough country, a broad valley.”

Advent in the Time of Covid-19

Advent is the time
when we prepare for the coming of Jesus.

that culminates in our celebration
of the birth of Jesus.

Ministry in Covid-19 Times

Keeping Faith and Hope Alive

As Heartbeats continues to explore “St. Angela Merici, A Woman of Faith and Hope,” we are guided by Angela’s words in the Prologue to her Counsels, “Have hope and firm faith in God who will help you in everything.”

Angela Merici, A Woman of Faith and Hope

Heartbeats is happy to be back after its summer break, and such a different summer it has been for all of us! The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted our lives in more ways than we could have ever imagined; and as we move into another season, we continue to wrestle with the unknowns of what truly lies ahead.

Thank you to so many of our Heartbeats readers for sharing your reflections on the ways COVID-19 has invited you to live in new and more intentional ways St. Angela’s spirit of hospitality. This issue of Heartbeats is a bit longer than usual, but we wanted to honor, however briefly or in summary, each response we received to these questions: As you reflect on your share in Angela’s spirit of hospitality and on the ways COVID-19 has impacted you and …
