Ukrainian year of the Holy Cross

Ursuline Sisters from various provinces around the world express their union with our brothers and sisters in the Ukraine and especially with our sisters who remain there.

We receive signs of remembrance in the form of pictures of decorations in the communities, assurances of prayer, in many communities it is a daily rosary for peace, and information about activities for refugees. Many Ursuline communities have already welcomed people escaping from the war. Words of communication, support and assurances of prayer were also given by Sr Susan Flood, Superior General, and the sisters gathered at the Formators' Meeting in Rome.

In the Generalate, the novitiate initiated a common rosary for peace and some sisters were involved in helping to pack gifts for the Ukrainians.

There are four Ursuline missions in war-stricken Ukraine. The sisters want to remain there to pray and to support the people. On the morning of March 6, Sr Lubov, from the Ursuline community in embattled Kiev wrote: "Today the Year of the Holy Cross begins in Ukraine. Certainly, neither the representatives of the Catholic Church of Ukraine who announced this year, nor its members expected that this would be, in the literal sense of the word, the Year of the Cross of the Ukrainian people."
