News from summer time in the Province of Czecho-Moravia

Sisters from the Czecho-Moravian Province share their experiences from the recent season.

♦ First Holy Communion and Baptism

Every year the preparation for First Holy Communion takes place at our St. Ursula Elementary School. The third grade children (eight to nine-years-old) get ready for First Holy Communion. This is their third year of religion classes and they are really looking forward to meeting the Lord Jesus in this Holy Sacrament.

This year on June 26, at the end of the school year, 24 children received Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time and one child was baptized. No parent or relative missed such a great event and our convent church of St. Ursula was completely packed. The main celebrant was Father Benedict Hudema, our school chaplain.

We were delighted that our school, in collaboration with parents, could offer pupils an encounter with the Lord Jesus and the pupils were really happy about this.

♦ Market

At the end of the school year, many school events were cancelled or postponed due to the Covid pandemic. Even the advent market before Christmas was postponed.

This year the pupils had their stalls in the school playground and the car park. They sold various drinks, cakes or salty products, some had been prepared by the mothers of younger pupils.

There were other products in the form of bracelets or activities such as face painting, as well as various competitions. Parents, pupils, teachers and sisters could buy something for a symbolic price. The proceeds from the market was used partly for the children from Ukraine and partly for the needs of classrooms.

♦ Jubilee

On August 2, solemn Holy Mass was celebrated in Jiřetín pod Jedlovou for our jubilarian sisters. Sister Perpetua Zapletalova and Sister Nives Folprechtova celebrated their 70th anniversary of religious profession.

They renewed their vows during Mass. The celebration continued with a festive luncheon where almost the whole province and relatives of Sr. Perpetua gathered. Together with them we rejoiced for their beautiful life and their faithfulness to God.
