Novena to St Angela

 

Novena to St Angela Merici prepared by the Sisters of the Italian Community. The novena is based on our prayer for the preparation of the new Constitutions.

18th January

Song to Saint Angela.

“If you strife in the future…  to keep this Rule as the way along which you have to walk and as that which has been drawn up for your benefit, I have this firm and unquestioning faith and hope in infinite divine goodness, that not only shall we easily overcome all dangers and adversities, but also, to our great glory and jubilation, we shall defeat them.” (Prologue to Rule, 23-25)

Moment of silence.

Let us pray: “Holy Spirit, you inspired Saint Angela to give to her followers a Rule of Life. … Help us to see what God is calling us to, as daughters of Angela, in our world today.”

Song to Saint Angela.

“Come then! Let us all embrace this holy Rule which God in his grace has offered us.” (Prologue to Rule, 29)

Moment of silence.

Let us pray: “Angela, you knew that you were chosen by God, as are we your daughters; teach us your courage and commitment to living a life of radical consecration.”

Song to Saint Angela.

“And if, according to times and circumstances, the need arises to make new rules or do something differently, do it prudently and with good advice...” (Last Legacy, 2)

Let us pray: “Angela, you knew that the world of your time needed change; be with us as we listen and respond to the needs of our own times.”

Song to Saint Angela.

 “… dearly beloved daughters and sisters, God has granted you the grace of setting you apart from the darkness of this miserable world and of uniting you together to serve his divine Majesty, you have to thank Him infinitely that, to you especially, He has granted such a singular gift.” (Prologue to Rule, 4-5)

Moment of silence.

Let us pray: “Angela, you knew the importance of living in a spirit of discernment and openness; help us to open our hearts to the calls of God and our brothers and sisters".

 

22nd January

Song to Saint Angela.

“And tell them that they should want to be united and in concord together, all being of one will, remaining under obedience to the Rule, for in this is everything.” (Fifth Counsel, 20)

Moment of silence.

Let us pray: “Angela, teach us to give ourselves over to the process of the transformation of our hearts and minds, so that we may carry out this work of renewal, faithful to your charism.”

“See then how important is this union and concord. So, long for it, pursue it, embrace it, hold on to it with all your strength.” (Last Counsel, 10-14)
