Chinese New Year celebration in the Generalate

At the beginning of the Year of the Dragon (before the start of the Lenten season) a special supper was prepared, and it was a time to experience our unity in our large family as well as to learn more about the customs and culture of Chinese people.

Some of us had already gathered to prepare the main meal. We shared our joy and laughter while sharing all kinds of tasks in the kitchen. It is always great fun to be with each other at such times. This togetherness is even more important than the meal itself!

Before the meal there was a celebration of the memory of our ancestors, which always takes place on New Year's Eve. As for us, St. Ursula, St. Angela and St. Marie of the Incarnation are our ancestors in our Ursuline life, so we asked them to intercede for zeal in following Jesus, our only Treasure and our Shelter.

Each sister also received a red envelope with small gifts;  traditionally these are given by the eldest person in the family.
