Death of Pope Francis

As Roman Union Ursulines, we join with millions of others throughout the world as we mourn the death of Pope Francis. While experiencing a deep sadness at the loss of the presence of this man, our leader, and praying that he will know great joy in the embrace of the God of the Living, now is also a time for gratitude.

We are grateful for the gift of Pope Francis to our Church and to our world at this time in history. We have all been impacted by his leadership, lived with simplicity, humility, honesty and courage, and always with an apparent desire to be genuinely present in encounter with the other.

In these Easter days, as we commit ourselves anew to Francis’ commitment to peace, let us pray also for peace and wisdom within the Church as preparations are made for the election of the successor of Pope Francis.

during the Wednesday General Audience on 25 September 2024 in St. Peter's Square.
