The Plenary Assembly of the International Union of Superiors General

XXIII UISG Plenary Assembly was held in Rome from May 5 to 9, 2025. This International Assembly is held once every three years. This year approximately 950 women from 75 different nationalities, who have the role of Superior General in their congregation were present for the meeting. They represented large International Congregations and quite small diocesan congregations, and everything in between. An indication of the diversity of the group is the fact that interpreters were working in ten different languages during the meeting, including Arabic!
The theme for the assembly was "Consecrated Life: A Hope that Transforms". There was a strong focus on synodality and the use of the methodology of Conversation in the Spirit allowed for discernment in diversity.
Our Prioress General, Sr. Susan Flood osu, took part in this important meeting. Sr Susan found the Assembly to be an encouraging and enriching experience.

At the conclusion of the Assembly, the Superiors General committed to becoming more and more:
• Women of peace, resilient, who remain at the foot of the cross
• Women at the margins, who reject exclusion and discrimination
• Women who keep vigil in the night and, like the moon, reflect the light
• Synodal women who build evangelical and inclusive communities
• Prophetic women who, in old age, illness or weakness, continue to be signs of hope
“As women entrusted with the leadership of our congregations, we commit ourselves to nourish hope within us and to transmit it, because ‘we set all our hope on the grace that will be brought to us at the revelation of Jesus Christ’ (1 Pt 1:13),” concludes the declaration.
