30th Anniversary of the Ursuline Primary School Reopening in Krakow

On a sunny Saturday, May 31, 2025, the Ursuline Primary School in Krakow, Poland celebrated the 30th anniversary of its reopening with a heartfelt ceremony.

The Ursulines began their educational mission in Krakow in the late 19th century, but the school was closed in the 1950s by communist authorities. It was joyfully reopened on September 1, 1994.

The celebration began with a moving performance at the Academy of Music, created by students and teachers. It portrayed a dialogue between past and present generations, evoking deep emotions and memories. The performance beautifully illustrated that the Ursuline spirit of SERVIAM – love for God and Fatherland – remains strong and continues to inspire young people today.

During the second part of the ceremony, Sr. Maria Jaworska, representing the school’s governing body, honored 18 long-serving teachers and staff members. Their dedication and passion have been vital to the school’s growth, helping it stay true to its roots while embracing modern challenges.

The event was attended by members of the school community, city officials, educational authorities, and many Ursuline sisters connected to the school. A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Małopolska Province Local Government Award – the Polonia Minor Gold Medal recognizing the school’s 110-year legacy and its outstanding contribution to education.

Following the ceremony, the community gathered at St. Mary’s Basilica for a thanksgiving Mass led by Fr Bronisław Fidelus, with a homily by Fr Robert Więcek SJ. The Eucharist was a moment of gratitude for the school’s journey and for all who have shaped it—teachers, students, families, and the local community.

After Mass, alumni reunited in their year groups, toured the school, and shared memories. The day concluded with a joyful jubilee picnic organized by the Parents’ Council—a celebration of community and gratitude.
